Every trip is accompanied by a Mountain Company leader, we use both International and Local leaders. International Leaders are allocated for our more technical or remote trips, working as a team with our Local leaders. For some trips such as for lodge based treks in Nepal we only send Local Leaders.
We have selected our guides based on their experience, training and leadership skills. Our guides are devoted to making sure you have a fantastic trekking experience.
Jo worked for us full time as our Operations Manager in 2018 & 2019 and during that time led a number of treks for us including Lunana Snowman (Bhutan), Saribung Expedition (Nepal), Naar to Upper Mustang GHT (Nepal), K2 Base Camp & Gondogoro La (Pakistan) and Snow Lake & Hispar La (Pakistan).
Roland is our Managing Director and set up The Mountain Company in 2004. Over the years he has led most of our trips so has first-hand knowledge and experience of the Himalayas and Karakoram. You can connect with Roland on his social media profiles on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Almas Khan is one of our regular trek leaders at The Mountain Company and has worked with us since 2009. Almas has completed Lunana Snowman trek in Bhutan ten times and is also an authority on the Indian Himalaya having trekked and climbed in most regions.
Adrian (Ade) is one of our regular trek leaders at The Mountain Company and has worked with us since 2007. Over the years Ade has led most of the major treks in Nepal and Pakistan as well as several treks in Bhutan and India.
Natalie, known as Nat, regularly leads treks all over the globe, favouring cold and high places as well as the wild spaces closer to home. Nat first visited Nepal in 2009 and since then it has become her favourite trekking destination.
Ben lives in the Lake District, having worked in outdoor pursuits and the adventure travel industry since 2004. He has worked as a tour leader and professional mountain leader, and leads a variety of expeditions, trekking and cycling holidays.
Cory has been exploring the world’s mountains for a lifetime, an ecologist and mountaineer, he has lead expeditions and treks to the Himalayas, Africa and South America.
Vivien, known as Viv, loves leading expeditions abroad and has led in Nepal and Africa. Her favourite part of the job is to help people achieve their goals and to show them the beautiful landscapes, flora and fauna we have all around us.
Chris is an experienced alpinist and high-altitude mountaineer, he has led many climbing and trekking groups to the major mountain ranges and jungles around the globe.
In celebration of his father’s historic first ascent of Mt Everest in 1953, Peter Hillary climbed to the summit of the world’s highest mountain for his second time on the 25th of May 2002. In April 2019, Peter co-led our our high profile trek called In Hillary's Footsteps to Everest Base Camp.
Over the last 15 years Jill has successfully led and been part of many expeditions to the Himalayas, Africa, Russia, South America and Europe.
Paul has led or undertaken many strenuous treks in Nepal including: Dhaulagiri Circuit (twice), Manaslu Circuit, Kanchenjunga Circuit, Rowaling to the Khumbu and Everest region in winter.
John Eames has led many commercial expeditions and treks to the most fascinating and dramatic corners of the globe. John is also a telemark, alpine and Nordic ski instructor with a number of qualifications.
Robert has guided teams successfully to the summits of Everest and Makalu over the course of 16 Himalayan expeditions.
Rachel works as a Summer and Winter Mountain Leader and Expedition Leader, having lead expeditions and treks in Nepal, Morocco, Tajikistan and Iceland. Rachel balances this with a medical career – she qualified as a doctor in 2015 and currently works as a trainee in General Practice
Mal is a full-time outdoor instructor and holds the International Mountain Leader, Mountain Leader, Rock Climbing Instructor and has completed Winter Mountain Leader training; he also holds REC Advanced First Aid qualification and is working towards becoming a caving instructor.
Chandra is one of our regular trek leaders in Nepal and has led groups for us since 2005 including camping treks such as Dhaulagiri Circuit, Kanchenjunga Circuit and Upper Dolpo.
Prem is one of our regular trek leaders in Nepal and has led groups for The Mountain Company since 2008. Prem is known for his passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of his country.
Purna has led many treks for us in Everest, Annapurna and Langtang regions and has also ventured further afield for camping treks in Upper Dolpo and Makalu regions. Purna prides himself on his attention to detail and leads a well organised trek.
