Lamjung Himal

Lamjung Himal is a rarely trekked region in the Annapurna region. After a drive from Kathmandu the trek begins from the small town of Besisahar, also known as the starting point of the famous Annapurna Circuit, however our quieter trail heads to the west rather than along the Marsyangdi Valley on the more popular trails of Annapurna.

With this nine day trek you will see a wonderful cross section of Nepal. After leaving Besisahar you start by trekking through traditional Gurung villages and terraced rice fields then you enter the forest zone with rhododendron and bamboo then further up above the tree line into the alpine zone.

Above the village of Ghanpokhara you start walking up a ridge (or in Nepal known as a "danda") for three days staying at a number of grazing grounds known as "kharkas" on the way up to Valley Camp at 3,717m. From here we walk up Rambrong West Summit (4,384m) and to the panoramic viewpoint of Himalayan mountains. From the summit you can see Lamjung Himal (6,983m), Mt Machapuchare known as Fish Tail (6,997m) in the west to Manaslu (8,163m) and Himal Chuli in the east.

From Valley Camp the trail descends down another ridge for three days to Tangting village. All along this ridge we camp at kharkas where there are also superb views of Lamjung Himal (6,983m) and Mt Machapuchare. From Tangting we drive to Pokhara where we stay two nights to enjoy the town by the lake before flying back to Kathmandu.

There are no lodges in Lamjung Himal region so we organise this trek as a fully supported camping group. As the lodge trails in Nepal are getting busier by choosing a camping trek means you can access more remote region less frequented by other trekkers. We sent one of our international leaders, Natalie Wilson, to lead a reconnaissance trek to Lamjung Himal in October 2018 and we have designed the itinerary based on her experience. Natalie came back full of enthusiasm for this trek as she did not see any other trekkers from leaving Besisahar to arriving to Pokhara after the trek was finished.
