Our trip was fantastic - Nurbu and his young sherpas were as good as one could get.

"I have known Alan since 2007 when he led the Milton Mountaineers group for a three day walking holiday in the Brecon Beacons in Wales.

Milton Mountaineers is a charity group of blind and partially sighted walkers of which I am the organiser and one of the trustees.  Alan had no hesitation in planning the walks for us, giving hill and low level alternatives to suit different abilities of the group.  He also recruited volunteer sighted guides for each blind member through the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

At our final evening meal Alan mentioned that he thought some of our members would be able to take on the challenge of trekking to Everest Base Camp.  The following year, I went as the only blind member of a small group of people which Alan led on a trek in Upper Mustang (the Nepalese part of the Tibetan plateau).

In 2010 I went on a trek with Alan to climb Mt. Stok Kangri in Ladakh, northern India, and in 2011 he led a group of four visually impaired and five sighted members of Milton Mountaineers on the trek to Everest Base Camp to raise funds for the charity and for me to celebrate my 60th birthday.

I have also been on a snow climbing weekend with Alan in the Ben Nevis area when he trained me one to one in the use of ice axe and crampons.  He said he enjoyed the challenge of adapting his training methods to teach a totally blind person and also having the experience of being my sighted guide around the hotel and when visiting Fort William.

Having had direct personal experience of taking part in some of Alan’s treks, I have no hesitation in recommending him as a trek leader.  He is a well experienced Mountain Leader who has in mind the best interests of the group as a whole, having the adaptability to include people of different abilities, personalities and temperaments."
